What is internal quality assurance and why is it important?

Internal quality assurance seeks to ensure your assessment activities have been carried out in a consistent, safe and fair manner. You must have a system in place to monitor all aspects of teaching, learning and assessment from when a learner starts to when they finish.
Internal quality assurers are often supervisors or managers and are naturally responsible for staff, systems and procedures.

All approved training centres delivering recognised qualifications must have a quality assurance strategy in place, which should include (as a minimum):

  • A rationale (why must IQA take place?)
  • Trainer/assessor observations
  • Desk-based review of course paperwork
  • Standardisation sessions
  • Sampling plan
  • Learner discussions (workplace witness records)
