Fire Marshal Course

Course overview

This training is part of our Eden Custom Training Fire Safety group of courses. The training and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:

  • National Occupational Standards (NOS) related to fire safety awareness
  • Good practice outlined by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)

The Fire Marshal Course will:

  • Develop learners’ basic fire safety awareness. It includes what to do in an emergency, the principles of fire risk control and the basics of practical fire safety.
  • Participants will learn about how fires are caused, the risks associated with fire and how to control fire risks in the workplace. It also covers the principles of fire safety management at work, fire safety inspection, fire safety risk assessment and the legal requirements related to fire safety in the workplace. And understanding the role of a fire warden is a key component of this training.

Learners will develop their fire safety awareness, and the course will help them build an understanding of fire safety management at work. It will also support specific roles and responsibilities related to fire safety in the workplace.

What’s covered?

The 4-hour course covers:

  • Legislation relating to fire safety
  • Human behaviour in a fire situation
  • Fire prevention
  • Actions on hearing the fire alarm
  • Actions on discovering a fire
  • Principles of phased evacuation
  • Principles of a full evacuation
  • Importance of fire drills
  • Liaison with emergency services
  • Understanding fire behaviours
  • Classes of fire
  • Types of extinguishers (including limitations and maintenance)
  • Safe firefighting
  • Practical demonstrations

Who’s it for?

The training is for anyone who has a specific responsibility for fire safety in the workplace. It's ideal for:

  • Qualifying fire wardens/fire marshals
  • Providing a foundation of fire safety knowledge for employers and responsible persons to build on
  • Increasing the fire safety knowledge of all employees

Entry requirements

Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training.

Requalification

This certificate is valid for 3 years. The learner must retake the training before the certificate expiry date to remain up to date with fire safety knowledge.
