Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF)
Qualification overview
This course is part of the Qualsafe Awards (QA) First Aid group of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:
- The Resuscitation Council (UK)
- The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework
- A distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care
The Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF):
- Is for people who are required to provide emergency first aid to infants and/or children, enabling them to have skills and knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid.
- Is based on the EYFS syllabus for emergency first aid courses.
- Outlines a range of practical skills for giving first aid to infants and children. Learners will practise assessing and managing an incident and demonstrate how to treat a variety of serious conditions.
The qualification will prepare learners to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations when looking after infants and children.
Course content
What’s covered?
The 1-day course covers:
- The role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
- Assessing an emergency situation safely
- Managing an infant/child unresponsive casualty (cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR], recovery position)
- Managing an infant/child choking patient
- Managing an infant/child with external bleeding
- Managing an infant/child who is suffering from shock
- Managing an infant/child with bites, stings and minor injuries (small cuts, bruises, grazes, splinters and nosebleeds)
- Managing an infant/child with burns and scalds
Who’s it for?
This training is for anyone who cares for children and infants, including parents, guardians and grandparents, or people who have a professional involvement with children and infants.
Entry requirements
Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training and be able to perform practical tasks at floor level.
Requalification
This qualification is valid for 3 years. The learner must retake it before the certificate expiry date to stay qualified.
