Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Annual Refresher)

Qualification overview

This annual refresher is part of the Qualsafe Awards (QA) First Aid suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:

  • The Resuscitation Council (UK)
  • A distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care

The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Annual Refresher):

  • Is for people who deal with first aid at work, enabling them to refresh their skills and knowledge as workplace first-aiders under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.
  • Is based on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) training standard for delivery of first aid at work (FAW) courses for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

The qualification will give learners the confidence to deal with a range of first aid situations. It’s designed to help them maintain their skills and keep up to date with any changes to first aid procedures.

Course content

What’s covered?

The half-day course covers:

  • The role and responsibilities of a first-aider
  • Assessing an emergency situation safely
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty (cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR], recovery position)
  • Managing a choking patient

Who’s it for?

It's mainly for qualified first-aiders who have a specific interest or a responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to give first aid to people they're caring for when dealing with an emergency.

Entry requirements

Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training and be able to perform practical tasks at floor level.

Requalification

This refresher qualification is valid for 1 year. The learner should retake it before the certificate expiry date.

Note: the learner should retake their primary First Aid at Work qualification before the 3-year expiry date to maintain the sequence of training recommendations issued by the HSE.

The learner must attend all sessions before completing the assessments.
