Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Requalification)
Qualification overview
This requalification is part of the Qualsafe Awards (QA) First Aid group of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:
- The Resuscitation Council (UK)
- A distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care
The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Requalification):
- Is for people who deal with first aid at work, enabling them to be workplace first-aiders under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.
- Is based on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) training standard for delivery of first aid at work (FAW) courses for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.
Learners will become confident to deal with a range of first aid situations and/or take on the role of first-aider in the workplace.
Course content
What’s covered?
The 2-day course covers:
- The role and responsibilities of a first-aider
- Assessing an emergency situation safely
- Managing an unresponsive casualty (cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR], recovery position)
- Managing a choking patient
- Managing external bleeding
- Managing a casualty who is suffering from shock
- Managing minor injuries (cuts, grazes, minor burns and scalds)
- Conducting a secondary survey
- Managing a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Managing a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
- Managing a casualty with suspected chest injuries
- Managing a casualty with burns and scalds
- Managing a casualty with an eye injury
- Managing a casualty with suspected poisoning
- Managing a casualty with anaphylaxis
- Managing a casualty with suspected major illness (heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes)
Who’s it for?
This requalification is for people whose First Aid at Work certificate is due for renewal. It's for those who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to help people in a range of first aid situations.
Entry requirements
Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training and be able to perform practical tasks at floor level.
Requalification
This qualification is valid for 3 years. The learner must retake it before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.
