Course overview
This qualification is part of the Qualsafe Awards (QA) Mental Health group of courses. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:

- In-depth research in the area of mental health
The Level 3 Award in Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace (RQF) is for people who want to:
- Raise their awareness of the signs and symptoms associated with mental health problems, both related to the workplace and in the general public.
- Be able to actively listen and feel confident to have a conversation with individuals suffering potential mental ill-health.
- Be able to assist with policy writing and risk assessments for mental health in the workplace.
- Direct anyone with potential mental health problems to a reliable source of support, both internally and externally.
Participants will learn about common mental health problems related to work, such as stress, depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Successful candidates will qualify to take on a role as a Mental Health First Aider.
Course content
What’s covered?
The 2-day course covers:
- Mental health and its importance
- Roles and responsibilities in relation to mental health in the workplace
- A range of common mental health conditions (suicide, PTSD, obsessive-compulsive disorder [OCD], phobias, bipolar, depression, anxiety, work-related stress, eating disorders, self-harm)
- Mental health first aid strategies in the workplace
- How employers can provide support to employees
- Promoting positive mental health first aid in the workplace
- Assisting those off work or returning to work
- Types of support available, both locally and nationally
Who’s it for?
This training is for people who are interested in mental health first aid. It's for those who want to increase their awareness of mental health within the work environment and be able to actively listen and guide/support colleagues.
Although this qualification is ideal for line managers or people who work in human resources, any member of staff should be able to take part.
Entry requirements
Learners must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the training and be interested in mental health.
Requalification
This qualification is valid for 3 years. The learner must retake it before the certificate expiry date to stay qualified.
