Qualification overview

This annual refresher is part of the Qualsafe Awards (QA) First Aid suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:

  • The Resuscitation Council (UK)
  • The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework
  • A distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care

The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) (Annual Refresher):

  • Is for people who work with or look after children, enabling them to have skills and knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid.
  • Outlines a range of practical skills for giving first aid to infants and children. Learners will practise assessing and managing an incident and demonstrate how to treat a variety of serious conditions.

Participants will gain the confidence to deal with a range of first aid situations. The course is designed to help them maintain their skills and stay up to date with any changes to first aid procedures.

Course content

What’s covered?

The half-day course covers:

  • The role and responsibilities of a paediatric first-aider
  • Assessing an emergency situation safely
  • Managing an infant/child unresponsive casualty (cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR], recovery position)
  • Managing an infant/child choking patient

Who's it for?

This qualification will prepare learners to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations. It will help them maintain their skills and keep up to date with any changes to paediatric first aid procedures.

Entry requirements

Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training and be able to perform practical tasks at floor level.

Requalification

This refresher qualification is valid for 1 year. The learner should retake it before the certificate expiry date.

Note: the learner should retake their primary Paediatric First Aid qualification before the 3-year expiry date to maintain the sequence of training recommendations issued by the EYFS.
